Gallia Co. Group Aims To Boost Business Opportunity
< < Back toA nonprofit group in Gallia County is trying to create more opportunity for business and innovation in the area.
The Digital River Project is a community group that is gaining support from county commissioners and local businesses to renovate properties that will improve the area's quality of life.
Project chairwoman Jodie McCalla says they hope to boost economic opportunities in the county.
"We recognized that in order to attract these types of businesses we needed to create an ecosystem where their employees would want to move to our area. So that's kind of what the digital river project is focusing on…creating that ecosystem in order to attract high tech companies or highly skilled jobs," said McCalla.
The Digital River Project received $50,000 from Ohio Valley Bank and $5,000 from WesBanco towards their goal.
McCalla says the money will help bring new businesses to the area.
"That fund's going to help new businesses start and if there's properties that need renovating in order to have new business in their property we'll help with that as well," said McCalla.
McCalla says the group is in the process of bringing two new businesses to the Gallipolis city area already: a women's clothing boutique and a restaurant.
