< < Back to wheeling-school-among-two-honored-green-practicesTwo West Virginia schools are being singled out for their environmental friendly practices.
The U.S. Department of Education has named Hilltop Elementary School in Wheeling and the Wyoming County Career and Technical Center in Pineville U.S. Green Ribbon Schools.
The schools are among 78 schools from 29 states that will receive the inaugural award on June 4 in Washington, D.C.
Hilltop Elementary helps recycle plastic bottles, paper and cardboard, drink pouches and printer-ink cartridges.
Along with several of its own recycling projects, the Pineville school is involved in a solar-panel installation project and also is developing a two-year degree program in sustainable energy.
