Number Of Powerless West Virginians Going Down
< < Back to number-powerless-west-virginians-going-downUtility crews are continuing to restore electricity to thousands of West Virginians who lost service during recent severe storms.
As of Tuesday morning, there are 38,925 outages across the state.
A majority of the outages are in Appalachian Power's territory, where 23,889 customers have no electricity. FirstEnergy says it has 15,036 customers awaiting restoration of service.
The first storm hit on June 29. Smaller subsequent storms caused outages for people who didn't lose power the first time, or who had gotten back on the grid.
State and federal officials are conducting preliminary damage assessments. Those reports will determine eligibility for federal disaster assistance.
