< < Back to husband-survives-jefferson-co-attempted-murder-suicidePolice say an eastern Ohio woman shot her husband and then killed herself as officers closed in.
It happened Monday in the small town of Toronto, near the border of Ohio and West Virginia, in Jefferson County.
Toronto Police Chief Randy Henry said 24-year-old Martha Dear shot her husband, 26-year-old Terry Dear, in the back during a struggle and then fled the home.
The couple's two small children were there at the time but were unharmed.
Henry said Martha Dear then killed herself with a shot to the chest as officers tried to stop her car in the nearby town of Mingo Junction.
Terry Dear survived and was taken to a hospital in Pittsburgh.
Henry said he wasn't sure what they were arguing about before the shooting.
