Ohio Falls in Three at NC State
< < Back to ohio-falls-three-nc-stateEntering Sunday at 5-6 on the season, the Ohio Bobcats had a ferocious battle awaiting them with the 10-1 NC State Wolfpack. The Bobcats didn’t manage to get anything going, though, and fell in three straight sets to the Pack 19-25, 20-25, 20-25.
"I thought NC State forced us out of our game," head coach Ryan Theis said. "They were just ultra-agressive serving throughout. I was really impressed with their ability to do that and I thought that kept us out of our game. From there, I thought we made a serious of forced and unforced errors, which is pretty uncharacteristic of our team."
In the first set Ohio only managed 10 kills on 32 attacks while also commiting 10 errors. NC State finished the set with a .244 hit percentage, managing 15 kills on 41 attacks. With only five errors, the Wolf Pack was able to take control of the set and take down the Bobcats despite a very close start to the set.
After taking the momentum in the first set, NC State continued its attack and took the second set 25-20. The Wolf Pack would only manage a .135 hit percentage, but their 12 kills on 37 attacks were good enough to seal a victory in the set. Ohio was unable to mount any offense in this contest with a hit percentage of just .045. The Bobcats had 11 kills in this set on 44 attacks, but still nine errors.
With the third set going to the Pack, Ohio drops to 5-7 on the season entering MAC play at Bowling Green on Friday, and at Miami (OH) on Saturday. The Bobcats will be hoping to make a comeback from their rough nonconference schedule and continue their dominance from the previous seasons in MAC play.
"We were happy to play a tough schedule, we were happy to get Faith Robins back home and we had glimpses of really good play we just need to sustain it for longer," Theis said.
