It was Homecoming night at Williamstown and the Yellow Jackets were looking to continue their winning ways against St. Mary’s. The Blue Devils had other plans, as they storm back in the second half to beat the Yellow Jackets 22-17.
The game tonight was a tale of two halves. The first half was dominated by the Williamstown. The Jackets took an early led as quarterback Jake Tracewell found his receiver David Hastings in the back corner of the end zone to put the Yellow Jackets up 7-0 early in the second quarter. After a few quick three-and-outs the Yellow Jackets decided to open it up and as Tracewell found a wide-open Gage Wix in the end zone for a 20-yard strike to put the Yellow Jackets up 14-0.
St. Mary’s offense finally came alive towards the end of the second quarter with a 13-play drive ending in 5-yard run by Andrew Cosper. Noah Spitzer followed that up runs in for the two-point conversion to make the score 14-8 at halftime.
Coming out of the half both teams knew what adjustments they had to make to win the game. St. Mary’s capitalized on its adjustments by outscoring Williamstown 14-3 in the second half to get the comeback win and spoiling the Yellow Jackets homecoming.
Now with a overall record of 3-2 Williamstown has a bye week next week but returns to the field on October 12 hosting Wirt County. While St. Mary’s moves up to 4-1 goes back home to host Calhoun next Friday.
