< < Back to ross-county-art-teachers-featured-ou-c-exhibitAwakening the Artist Within, an art show featuring the work of Ross County art teachers, is currently on exhibit through Thursday, Oct. 18 in Ohio University-Chillicothe's Patricia Scott Art Gallery.
Teachers from Adena, Bishop Flaget, Chillicothe City, Southeastern, Unioto, Paint Valley and Zane Trace school districts have various 2-D and 3-D media in the show.
The purpose of the show to is to promote the arts in the schools of Ross County and the role that art fills in offering students a well-rounded educational experience.
"Art teachers are constantly trying to awaken the artist within their students and often do not have time for their own art. This show features the wide range of diversity of the art teachers because they teach it all," said Suzi Cunningham, the show’s designer. "The media used to create their art includes photography, printmaking, painting, drawing, mixed media, illustration and ceramics. The major focus of the show is to advocate the importance of visual arts in our schools by showcasing the art teachers' creations."
Cunningham taught art in area schools for 30 years and now works with students a Bishop Flaget School.
The show, which is free and open to the public, will conclude with a public reception from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 18 in the gallery. Many art teachers will be on hand to explain their artwork.
The show is sponsored by the OU-C Giving Circle.
