Women’s Basketball: Ohio Loses First Game In Subway Classic
< < Back to womens-basketball-ohio-loses-first-game-subway-classicThe Ohio Bobcats suffered an 85-40 loss to the Minnesota Gophers in their Subway Classic opener.
The Bobcats could not get it going in the first half. They were just 2/21 from the field. Ohio also turned the ball over 14 times. The defensive effort was not much better. Ohio gave up 60 points in the first half, allowing Minnesota’s Rachel Banham and Sari Noga to score 15 points each. Ohio was also outrebounded by the Gophers 24-9 in the first half.
In the second half, Ohio started to get it going, but the first half deficit was just too big to overcome. Although Minnesota outscored Ohio 25-24 in the half, the Bobcats’ deficiencies in the first half were greatly improved in the second half. Ohio shot 29.4% and only committed six turnovers in the second half. The Bobcats also kept the rebound battle even in the second half at 23.
The Bobcats’ struggles scoring showed in the box score. Ohio did not have a player score in double digits. Symone Lyles was Ohio’s top offensive player with eight points and eight rebounds.
Ohio will have to rebound quickly, as they play tomorrow, Nov. 18, in the Subway Classic consolation game against the loser of the Maine Black Bears and UNLV Running Rebels.
