A House incumbent has been declared the winner of a northeast Ohio recount by a razor-thin margin, helping Republicans secure a three-fifths majority at the Statehouse next session.

State Rep. Al Landis, of Dover, was named the victor in the 98th District late Thursday after 13 hours of deliberation.

Landis beat Democrat Josh O'Farrell by eight votes in one of two Ohio House races that went to recounts. The recount trimmed his lead by seven votes.

The other recount retained a GOP incumbent in Cleveland. With 60 votes to Democrats' 39, Republicans will be able to revisit gubernatorial vetoes and send constitutional amendments to the ballot without Democratic help.

Republicans last held a three-fifths House majority in 2005-06, Democrats in 1991-92.
