IRS Delay Not Going To Change FAFSA Filing Date
< < Back to irs-delay-not-going-change-fafsa-filing-dateThe director of Ohio University student financial aid and scholarships says the week long IRS processing delay won't affect the filing date of a federal student financial aid application, despite student concerns.
Valerie Miller said OU students are advised to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as the FAFSA, by Feb. 15 in order to meet the first priority receipt date of March 15.
"The FAFSA allows you to provide estimated income information, which we strongly recommend rather than missing the priority filing date, but on the other side because completion of your tax form and pulling together that income data which is what's used on the FAFSA in no way is connected with when the IRS processes that tax form at their end," said Miller.
IRS processing was delayed this year from the typical start date of Jan. 22 to Jan. 30.
Miller said only about 67 percent of OU students actually file the FAFSA.
