Ohio Signee D.J. Wingfield Loses In State Semis
< < Back to ohio-signee-dj-wingfield-loses-state-semisOhio Basketball 2013 signee D.J. Wingfield lost in the Ohio Division I State semifinals Friday night in Columbus. Wingfield played for Walnut Hills High School (27-2), which fell to Toledo Rogers High School (21-7), 58-51, in the Ohio State Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center.
Wingfield, one of four members of Ohio Basketball coach Jim Christian’s first recruiting class, had 20 points and nine rebounds in the game. He had two assists and a blocked shot while shooting 66 percent from the field in the loss.
In his senior season, his first with the Walnut Hills Eagles, Wingfield averaged 15.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He was joined by Akron signee Isaiah Johnson who averaged 17.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Together the two lead the team to 23 straight wins before Friday’s loss.
The Eagles’ only regular season loss came to high school hoops powerhouse Huntington (W.Va.) Prep Academy 61-54 on December 14. Wingfield had 17 points and six rebounds in the loss.
