Media reports say West Virginia State Police and the FBI searched Wednesday for the remains of Samantha Burns on land near train tracks and an intersection near WV-75.
Burns was last seen Nov. 11, 2002, at the Huntington Mall. Her torched car later was found on a rural road in Wayne County.
Brandon Basham and Chadrick Fulks were convicted of killing the 19-year-old student in November 2002 during a 17-day crime spree after they escaped from a Kentucky jail.
They were sentenced to life in prison for her murder, and they are awaiting execution for a slaying in South Carolina.
