Same Suspect Named In Proctorville And Wheelersburg Bank Robberies

UPDATE: 3:05 PM Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies believe a suspect in the robbery of a Wheelersburg bank is also connected to the Monday robbery of a Proctorville bank.

The Scioto County Sheriff's Office and the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office have named Elvis Kerns, 34, of Wheelersburg as the suspect for the Friday robbery of the Charter One Bank in Wheelersburg and the Monday robbery of the US Bank Branch in Proctorville.

The Scioto County Sheriff's Office has obtained a warrant for the arrest of Kerns, and the Lawrence County sheriff's detectives are in the process of obtaining a warrant for Kerns as well.

Kerns is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall with brown hair and blue eyes.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office says Kerns was last seen driving a 1990 gold Chevy Cavalier with the license plate FTK 1183. The vehicle has a sticker in the back window that supports coal miners and has tinted windows.

Kerns last known whereabouts was Cross Lanes, West Virginia.


Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini says his detectives have a suspect in the robbery of the Charter One Bank in Wheelersburg.

Donini says they are looking for Elvis Kerns, 34. He’s described as 5 feet 11 inches tall with brown hair and blue eyes.

Investigators say Kerns walked into the bank around noon Friday and demanded money after trying to cash a check.

Kerns was last seen driving a 1990 gold Chevy Cavalier with the license plate FTK 1183. The vehicle has a sticker in the back window that supports coal miners and has tinted windows.

Kerns last known whereabouts was Cross Lanes, West Virginia.

Meanwhile, Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless says the bank robbery in Proctorville on Monday could be connected with the robbery in Scioto County.

Lawless says the U.S. Bank branch on County Road 107 was robbed just before 12:30 p.m.

Lawless says a man tried to cash a check and then demanded money from the teller.

Lawrence County Sheriff detectives have not officially named a suspect in their investigation.
