Nelsonville Student Apartment Building Destroyed

Nelsonville Public Information Officer Dan Pffeiffer said in a news release the fire department was called just before 3:00 a.m.
When they arrived, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the second floor and roof at the 560 Poplar Street residence.
While the fire was contained, the structure was destroyed.
The news release said five tenants who who are foreign students of Hocking College were able to escape the fire unharmed.
The building, owned by Barbara Wyckoff of Logan, Ohio, was valued at $47,870 according to the Athens County Auditor's website.
Firefighters cleared the scene just after 7:00 a.m.
