Body Found In Ohio River
< < Back to body-found-ohio-riverAuthorities have retrieved the body of a missing West Virginia man from the Ohio River.
Carl Austin Travis, 22, of Parkersburg, W.Va., had disappeared while on leave from the U.S. Navy.
He was declared missing after failing to return to the USS Halyburton in Jacksonville, Fla., Feb. 22. His family reported losing contact Feb. 18.
Travis' mother, Susan Lott of Belpre said Saturday that her son was identified by his jacket and wallet. Authorities declined to identify the body or a cause of death until an autopsy could be performed.
An earlier scan of the Ohio and Muskingum rivers indicated a body possibly present but eight hours of searching turned up no physical evidence.
Employees of Marietta Industrial Enterprises spotted the body Friday.
