Nine Pioneers Earn All-OAC Honors
< < Back to nine-pioneers-earn-all-oac-honorsNine Marietta College Pioneers earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors Monday. Catcher Alex Toth, outfielders Jordan Grilliot and Aaron Hopper, and pitchers Jason Byers and Mike Mulvey were all selected to the first team.
Toth started 39 games for Marietta and led the team with a .403 batting average. This season, Toth had a knack for just getting on base with a .463 on-base percentage and 38 singles. What’s more is Toth only struck out eight times this season in 144 at-bats.
In a conference not known for power, Grilliot led the Pioneers and finished tied for third in the OAC with four home runs. Grilliot was named to the Captial One Academic All-District First Team with a 3.77 grade point average. He majors in chemistry.
Hopper brought a steady glove to the Marietta outfield. He finished the season with no errors. At the dish, Hopper hit .348 and had the third most runs for the Pioneers with 41.
On the mound, Byers was Marietta’s workhorse. He threw five complete games this season, the most on the team, and posted a team low 2.64 ERA.
Byers and Mulvey tied for the OAC lead with 58 strikeouts apiece. The two combined for 13 wins.
Bryan Gregorich, Evan Brockmeier and Mike Finlan earned second team honors.
Mitch Geers earned an honorable mention.
