Police blockaded Route 248 leading to a home about two miles from Route 7 in Meigs County. Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood said that an 80-year-old man had barricaded himself in his home. Wood reported the man is armed with a gun. The man's name was not released on Tuesday.
The sheriff said deputies had talked to the man over the phone, but he still refused to come out of the house. The man’s son was also at the scene.
Wood reported that the man was alone in the house and that the domestic dispute involved a friend.
“Mainly we want the community to know that everything is OK, we're just trying to talk him out of the house right now without anyone getting hurt," said Wood Tuesday. "People get upset with each other and have arguments. But to turn it to this level and have one of our officers threatened … it's just something we're trying to get under control. But people just need to control themselves."
Route 248 was closed in both directions in the area where the stand-off took place.
The Ohio Highway Patrol and several other police agencies were on scene and a SWAT team was also on scene Monday.
