Commission Studying WV Highways To Tour State
< < Back to commission-studying-wv-highways-tour-stateA commission studying West Virginia's highways will visit six cities this month to gather public input on how to address the system's needs.
West Virginia Blue Ribbon Highways Commission chairman Jason Pizatella says public hearings will be held in Beckley, Wheeling, Fairmont, Martinsburg, Parkersburg and Huntington.
Pizatella said the dates and meeting locations haven't been determined yet.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin established the commission in August 2012 to develop a long-term plan for the state's highway system.
The commission has discussed tax and fee increases to raise funding for maintenance and repairs. But its final recommendations won't be made until after the public hearings are held.
Engineering consulting firm CDM Smith told the commission in May that more than 1,300 miles of state roads are deficient.
