Pepsi Plant Employees Reject Contract Offer
< < Back to pepsi-plant-employees-reject-contract-offerEmployees at the Pepsi Beverage plant in Huntington have unanimously rejected a contract offer they claim would erode their current benefits.
The workers joined the Teamsters about a year ago. Ralph Winters of Local 175 says Pepsi retaliated by offering a contract that would deny workers nearly $2,000 worth of benefits they currently receive. The vote to reject was 39-0.
Winters says the company is trying to intimidate the Huntington workers by advertising to hire their replacements.
Pepsi corporate spokeswoman Gina Anderson says the contract offer was comparable to the company's contracts with Teamsters everywhere, including its operations in Charleston, Fairmont and Logan.
About 12,000 Pepsi workers nationwide are represented by Teamsters.
