ODOT Encourages Safe Driving For The Holiday Weekend
< < Back to odot-encourages-safe-driving-holiday-weekendThe Ohio Department of Transportation encourages drivers to drive safely this holiday weekend.
"Drivers have the responsibility to protect their life and the lives of others by choosing not to drink and drive" said ODOT Director Jerry Wray. "We want motorists to avoid becoming a statistic."
Last year, 263 drivers were arrested for drug and alcohol-related charges on July 4. Impaired driving also contributed to 87 crashes statewide.
ODOT recommends that drivers leave about one car length per 10 mph of speed between vehicles, to stay alert and watch for animals on the side of the road and to come to a complete stop and look both ways before entering the highway.
Drivers should also watch out for construction that could impact holiday travel along Interstate 70 in Licking County, State Route 7 in Jefferson County and Interstate 77 in Tuscarawas County.
