Authorities say a body found burning alongside a road in southeast Ohio last week has been tentatively identified and the death is being investigated as a homicide.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Office in McConnelsville says the man was identified tentatively through a fingerprint match. But authorities are withholding the man's name until his family can be notified.

Sheriff's officials say the burning body was found Thursday morning by utility workers. The workers found the body along a county road about 1,000 yards west of State Route 555 in Union Township.

Sheriff Thomas Jenkins has said that the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation is assisting his office in the probe.

Sheriff's officials said no additional information was immediately available Saturday.
