Settlement Reached In WV Brutality Lawsuit
< < Back to settlement-reached-wv-brutality-lawsuitA settlement has been reached in a police brutality lawsuit against a former Parkersburg police officer.
Parkersburg Mayor Bob Newell says the settlement was reached in U.S. District Court in Charleston this week. He received confirmation of a settlement from the city's attorneys on Saturday.
Resident Jerry Seabolt filed a suit last year against Joshua Vensel, who was a sergeant with the Parkersburg Police Department at the time of the 2011 incident.
Vensel had pleaded guilty to battery and resigned from the police department. He admitted hitting Seabolt with his fist at the Wood County Holding Center.
The Parkersburg News and Sentinel reported that the settlement was made with the insurance company on behalf of Vensel as a city police officer at the time of the incident.
