Cross-Country Men Win At Miami, Women Place Four In Top 10

The men's cross-country team finished first as a team and the women had a strong showing in their own race that was not scored on the new course at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational.

On the men's side, the Bobcats had five finishers in the top 10 to propel them to a first-place victory. Sophomore Jarrod Genther led the charge to finish third overall with a time of 14:59.2. Junior Jacob Stephens and senior Chase Robinson finished sixth and seventh overall with times of 15:04.4 and 15:11.9, respectively. Senior Brandon O'Malley and junior Kurt Steinmuller rounded out the top five for the 'Cats finishing eighth and ninth with times of 15:12.8 and 15:13.1, respectively.

The team had a total of 33 team points to just edge out Miami, who had 36 points. Ohio finished with an average time of 15:08.28 for the 5-kilometer course.

The women had a sound performance in their race. Senior Juli Accurso finished fourth overall to lead the 'Cats with a time of 17:30.2. Accurso, along with sophomores Kayla Scott and Krista Roehlig and junior Morgan Reichert all finished within five seconds of one another. Scott, Roehlig and Reichert finished fifth, sixth and seventh with times of 17:30.4, 17:32.8 and 17:34.6, respectively. Senior Melissa Thompson finished fifth for Ohio, 13th overall, with a time of 17:53.7.

Both the men's and women's teams will be in action again on Sept. 14 in their sole home meet in Athens. The women will kick off the day at 10 a.m. and the men will step off at 10:45 a.m.
