Emergency Financial Assistance For Veterans In Ohio Dependent On County
< < Back toWhether military veterans get emergency financial assistance might depend on which Ohio county they live in.
A Dayton Daily News analysis of veterans services commissions in the state's 88 counties found a wide range of response rates.
Miami County in western Ohio spent more on financial assistance than 80 other counties, including nearby Montgomery County, which includes Dayton and a much larger population.
The report finds the Miami County veterans service commission spent 69 percent of its budget on aid, while Harrison County in eastern Ohio spent only 7 percent.
The commissions have broad discretion in how to allocate spending on resources and benefits for veterans.
Some veterans complain that financial assistance should be handed out evenly based on need, not location.
