RedStorm Lose Third Straight Match
< < Back to redstorm-lose-third-straight-matchThe Rio Grande RedStorm extended their losing streak to three games in a four-set loss to the Cumberlands (Ky.) Patriots 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22.
The RedStorm went point for point with the Patriots through most of the first two sets but could not finish. The Patriots took six of the last nine points to win the first set and eight of the last 11 points to win the second set.
Rio Grande played with intensity in the third set. Although the RedStorm saw a four-point lead (18-14) disappear, they went on to edge out the Patriots for a 25-23 win in the third set.
The RedStorm came back from an early five-point deficit in the fourth set to tie it up at 10-10. They went back-and-forth with the Patriots to a 22-22 tie late in the set, but the Patriots proved to be too tough and took the last three points to win the set and the match.
Leading the RedStorm on offense was Betsy Schramm with 13 kills and Nicole Ogg led the Red Storm defense with a game-high 21 digs.
The RedStorm (1-5, 0-4) look to end their losing streak and will also look to win their first Mid-South Conference match of the season when they host St. Catharine College (8-7, 2-2) on Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.
