The Ohio women’s golf team finished in a tie for 10th place at the Nittany Lion Invitational after shooting 308 in the third and final round on Sunday.

308 was only a one-stroke improvement from the Bobcats’ score in the second round, which caused them the fall from seventh place to eleventh on Saturday. The Bobcats’ final total score was 922.

Senior Kara Brinkmann shot only +2 in her third round, her best single-round score of the tournament. Brinkmann greatly improved her score from Friday to Saturday, going from +14 to +4, and then cut her strokes over par in half on Sunday. Brinkmann shot a combined 236 through three rounds, the third best score on the Bobcats, and good enough to put her in a tie for 53rd on the individual leaderboard.

Senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer and freshman Hailey Hrynewich finished the invitational tied for the best score the ‘Cats had. Both players were a combined +14 after three rounds. Helmsdoerfer went +5 for the second day in a row, while Hrynewich was +9 on Sunday. Hrynewich recorded two triple bogeys and two birdies en route to her highest score of the tournament.

Sophomore Angela Codian also shot +5 in her final round, her best score of the competition. Codian finished +26 on the weekend, the 62nd best score overall at the invitational.

Sophomore Lauren McKinzie went +12 for the second straight day, and junior Julie Lechner rounded out Ohio’s day with two birdies and a +8.

Kent State walked away with the tournament win, as the Golden Flashes posted a team score of 873 and had two players, Jennifer Ha and Josee Doyon, with the two best individual scores of the competition.

The Bobcats will have a little over a week to prepare for the next competition on their fall schedule, The Preview, which is hosted by Ball State. The Preview is a two-day event that will take place on Monday, Oct. 7, and Tuesday, Oct. 8.
