The Ohio women’s golf team recorded its highest score of the tournament in the final round of the Rocket Classic on Tuesday, dropping them to an eighth place finish.

The Bobcats shot a combined 321 in the third round, one stroke greater than their 320 total from the opening round on Monday.

Sophomore Angela Codian and senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer led the team coming into the third round, but both regressed during the final 18 holes. Codian was +5 and recorded no birdies, while Helmsdoerfer shot 83, a personal worst for the competition.

Codian’s 77 was still the team’s best score on Tuesday, and her 230 (plus-14) through three rounds was also the Bobcats’ best performance.

Sophomore Lauren McKinzie had the team’s second best score of the third round, +7, with one hole under par. McKinzie steadily improved after every round of the tournament, going +18, +10 and then +7.

Freshman Hailey Hrynewich was +11 with no birdies on Tuesday, and it was her personal high for the event, as well. Hrynewich finished the tournament +28, the third best score on the Bobcats.

Senior Kara Brinkmann improved her second round score by three strokes, shooting +10 with one birdie on the final day of the competition.

The host team, Toledo, walked away with first place at the tournament. The Rockets shot an 891 through three rounds. They were the only team not to crack 900 and held a massive 35-stroke lead over the second place team, Bowling Green.

The Rocket Classic was the final event on Ohio’s schedule for the fall season. The Bobcats will take a break over the winter and then hit the tees for the first time of the spring season in March. No events on the team’s spring schedule have been announced yet.
