Rio Grande Slams Pikeville In Straight Sets

The RedStorm jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the first set. However, the Bears chipped away to take a 12-11 lead, but that would be the last time Pikeville held a lead the rest of the set. Rio Grande took 14 of the last 22 points, including the set on a four-point run, to win the first game.
The two teams traded off the first eight points of the second game, but the RedStorm dominated the rest of the set. They gave up just eight points while scoring 21 points the rest of the game. Rio Grande never trailed during the second set.
Much like the second, the RedStorm never trailed during the third. Rio Grande gave up just 13 points in the set, cruising to win the set and the match.
Alex Phillips and Betsy Schramm led the offensive effort with nine kills each, with Kayla Briley adding 27 assists. Nicole Ogg led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
The RedStorm will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Bluefield College for a 6 p.m. match.
