St. Catharine (10-4, 4-3) inched its way closer to a better spot in the Mid-South Conference Tournament with a 2-1 victory over the RedStorm Wednesday night at Evan E. Davis Field.

Sophomore Kasey Crow scored the loner goal for the RedStorm in the second half with an unassisted marker that gave Rio a 1-0 lead. Crow’s solo goal made her the all-time leading scorer in Rio Women’s Soccer history. The goal was her ninth of the season and 19th of her career, surpassing Beth Hoffman, who scored 18 goals.

Unfortunately for Rio, Crow’s goal did not secure a first round home game in the upcoming MSC Tournament.

St. Catharine’s Macy Higdon and Paige Young both scored for the Patriots. Higdon scored on a rebound off goalkeeper, Allison Keeney in the second half to even the game at 1-1. Constant pressure at both ends of the field made it difficult for both teams to get open shots. With 15 minutes left in regulation, Young found the open net and scored the game-winner for the Patriots.

St. Catherine is now tied with Rio for fourth place in the MSC standings. Rio slipped to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the MSC.

The RedStorm were outshot 15-7, as well as 9-4 in shots on goal.

St. Catharine’s keeper, Lindsey Vinson, had three saves for the Patriots while Keeney stopped seven shots for the RedStorm.

Rio will host 11th ranked Cumberland (Tenn.) University in its last regular season game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
