A two-goal performance from Matt Kinkopf propelled the Ohio Northern Polar Bears (12-3, 4-1) to a 6-1 victory over the Marietta Pioneers (3-10-1, 0-4-1) Saturday.

Marietta struck first when Wesley Riley scored off Lucas Eick’s assist in the 12th minute, but that was it for the Pioneers, who only managed four shots all game. The Polar Bears, however, fired off 21 total shots, including 13 on goal.

Ohio Northern tied the game in the 37th minute on Kinkopf’s first goal of the day. Dustin Lorenzo had the assist on the play. Then the Polar Bears seized a 2-1 lead in the 44th minute when Jeremy Barnes scored an unassisted goal.

Ohio Northern exploded for four goals in the second half. Keegan Ross extended the Polar Bears’ lead to 3-1 when he buried a shot in the back of the net in the 52nd minute. Kinkopf then scored his second goal of the day in the 60th minute.
