Ohio University To Host Piscataway Indian Nation Singers And Dancers

The Piscataway Indian Nation Singers and Dancers will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 in the Ohio University Baker University Center Theatre.
Ohio University invited the Piscataway Indian Nation Singers and Dancers to perform as a centerpiece of its Native American Heritage Month celebration.
The singers and dancers educate audiences of all ethnicities and ages about the origins, traditions, songs, dances and beliefs of the Piscataway people.
They are internationally recognized for their living history program. Although the singers and dancers hail from the Tayac territory in Maryland, they travel throughout Europe and North America to share authentic American Indian dance, drums and songs.
They provide powerful insights into the history and traditions of the Piscataway tribe. The tribe was once one of the most populous and powerful tribes of the Chesapeake Bay region, possessing territory that dominated all of Maryland, portions of Delaware and New Jersey, and tracts of land in Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio. The Nation as existed for nearly 15,000 years.
The Office of Multicultural Programs, Black Student Cultural Programming Board (BSCPB) and the Senate Appropriations Commission (SAC) sponsor this event, which is free and open to the public.
