Stuart’s Opera House is now accepting applications for students interested in becoming a part of the Stuart’s After School Music Program.

The new session starts Jan. 6, 2014 and Athens County students ages 13-18 are encouraged to enroll.

Students will learn to play instruments (guitar, drums, bass, keyboards, vocals and more) and receive instruction from area musicians and teachers. No previous experience is needed.

In addition to music, the program offers homework help, along with reading and writing enrichment based on music and art.

The program, which runs through May, meets two days a week after school on Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Opera House.

The program began in September 2013 with the first group of students learning instruments, playing songs together, and reading and writing about music. Those students will also continue in the program.

For more information and an application, contact Brian Koscho at Stuart’s Opera House at (740) 753-1924 or e-mail brian@stuartsoperahouse.org. Applications are also available at the Stuart’s Opera House office at 46 Public Square in Nelsonville and all seven locations of the Athens County Library System (Nelsonville, Athens, The Plains, Chauncey, Glouster, Coolville and Wells) or may be sent electronically.

In addition, applications are available at the Nelsonville High School and Junior High offices. Applications are due on Friday, Dec. 20.
