The Athens Lady Bulldogs traveled to a hostile environment in Albany to take on a much-improved Lady Spartans team. The Lady Bulldogs were just too much for Alexander, as Athens beat Alexander 62-35 to remain undefeated.

The Lady Bulldogs had won 23 straight TVC games coming into the game, but tonight they had to do it with their defense as the star instead of their offense.

The Lady Bulldogs held the Lady Spartans to 26.7 percent shooting on 12-of-45 and forced 20 turnovers for the game. Athens might have felt the pressure of Alexander a little bit but it didn’t slow their offense down at all.

Patience and execution along with missed opportunities from Alexander helped the Lady Bulldogs get out to an early lead that they never gave up.

At halftime the Lady Spartans were still in striking distance, behind 29-16. Junior Olivia Harris, who normally backs up Dominique Doseck in scoring for Athens, took on the task of defending dynamic freshman guard Leah Richardson, who had 9 of her team-high 16 points at the break.

Coming out of halftime, Athens held Alexander to nine points in the third quarter to build a 26-point lead. Doseck, who was held to six points at halftime, exploded with 15 points in the quarter and eight straight points to extend the Lady Bulldogs lead to 49-25.

Athens will travel to Meigs to finish up a five game road trip for the Lady Bulldogs on Monday, Jan. 13.

Alexander will host a tough Nelsonville-York team that is looking to avenge a one-point loss from to the Spartans from early December.
