Fire Kills One In Stewart
< < Back to fire-kills-one-stewartUPDATE 11:07 a.m. A fire to a mobile home on Second Street in Stewart resulted in the death of a 73-year-old man early Thursday morning.
Ernest Creamer, of 8345 Second Street, died after a fire broke out at about 2:40 a.m. in his home.
Rome Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, Richland Area Volunteer Fire Department and Coolville Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the scene but the home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
"Firefighters were not able to attempt any interior rescue do to the large amount of fire in the structure," said Athens County Public Information Officer Dan Pfeiffer in a news release.
Investigators from the Athens County Sheriff's Office notified the Athens County Coroner and a member of the State Fire Marshal's Office was also called in to assist with the investigation, arriving at 10:30 a.m.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined and under investigation, according to Michael Duschesne, spokesman for the fire marshal's office.
A mobile home fire in Stewart killed a man inside the home, according to reports from the Athens County Sheriff's Office and the Rome Volunteer Fire Department.
A 73-year-old man died after a fire broke out early Thursday morning at an unidentified address.
The Rome Township Volunteer Fire Department has requested the assistance of the state fire marshal in the fire, but there has been no word as to whether officials suspect arson in the fire.
The name of the man who died is being withheld by law enforcement, pending notification of the family, according to Athens County Sheriff Patrick Kelly.
Investigators from the Athens County Sheriff's Office are still on the scene of the fire and awaiting the arrival of the Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office.
