On Saturday, Feb. 15, ARTS/West and Brick Monkey Theater Ensemble will present a reading of The Shared Wife by local playwright Merri Biechler, a comedy about the people we love and the chicken we eat.

Merri Biechler is the author of An Appalachian Christmas Carol, which was recently performed at Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville.

In the play, Natalie McKenzie runs a small company that records audio books. Her co-owners—and housemates—are her husband and his brother.

After a passionate kiss with her brother-in-law, Natalie is determined to save her marriage. And help is on the way: The threesome sign Cherry, author of A Recipe for Marriage, poised to be the next self-help megastar.

But Natalie can’t choose which brother she wants to be married to. And then there’s the dilemma of a live chicken…a tasty, tasty chicken.

Directed by Emily Prince, the cast includes Ledger Free, David Haugen, Bianca Sams and Kate Scholl.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 with show time at 8 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
