Athena Cinema To Host Film Industry Vet, Free Screening
< < Back to athena-cinema-host-film-industry-vet-screen-award-winning-filmThe Division of Film in the Ohio University School of Dance, Film and Theater will host Nancy Gerstman, co-owner of Zeitgeist Films, for a special screening of Child’s Pose with a Q&A session afterwards.
The free public screening will be held at the Athena Cinema on Tuesday, March 25 at 7 p.m.
"It is important for us to bring visiting guests such as Nancy Gerstman to campus," said Visiting Assistant Professor of Film, Pearl Gluck. "Nancy Gerstman has been in the film business for more than 25 years, which makes this an incredible learning opportunity for Film students to work with her one-on-one and get a realistic sense of the film distribution and marketing industry as they prepare for their own careers in film. The visit works both ways–in addition to gleaning from Nancy's experience, Nancy will also be introduced to the filmmakers of OU's Division of Film."
Gerstman is co-president and co-founder of Zeitgeist Films. She has worked in all aspects of film distribution and exhibition including a stint at Landmark Theatre Corp., the largest independent theatre chain in the US. She is in demand as a juror, panelist and commentator on issues related to independent and foreign language film and is Permanent Artist-in-Residence in the Master's Program in Media and Communication Arts at CCNY.
Zeitgeist Films has distributed first films by notable directors Todd Haynes and Christopher Nolan, and their catalog includes films from the world's most outstanding filmmakers including Agnes Varda, Guy Maddin, Atom Egoyan, Abbas Kiarostami, Laura Poitras, and Jacques Demy.
Six Zeitgeist films have been nominated for Academy Awards and one (Nowhere In Africa) has won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Child’s Pose was the Official Romanian Entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards and was the top prize winner at the Berlin Film Festival.
Gerstman's visit is sponsored by Arts for Ohio, the Film Division, the College of Fine Arts, the Center for Entrepreneurship, Political Science, Women’s Studies, the Athena Cinema and CREATE_space.
