No. 11 Marietta Sweeps Otterbein To Open OAC Play
< < Back to no-11-marietta-sweeps-otterbein-open-oac-playIn its Ohio Athletic Conference opener, the No. 11 Marietta College Pioneers swept a road double-header with the Otterbein University Cardinals by scores of 10-6 and 4-2.
After Otterbein scored four runs in the top half of the first inning, Marietta got the benefit of two clutch RBI hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tim McCoy got the party started with a two RBI double, and later in the inning Zack Bukiewicz tied up the game with a two RBI single.
The momentum went and stayed with the Etta Express for the remainder of game. The Pioneers followed up the four-run fourth inning with three runs in each of the next two innings en route to the 10-6 victory.
Jason Byers pitched six innings on the way to his fourth victory of the season.
In the second game of the double-header, Christian Herstine threw his second complete game of the season in a 4-2 Marietta victory.
Herstine benefitted from early support with two runs scored in the first inning and two runs scored in the fourth inning.
The Cardinals scored a run in the fourth inning and a run in the fifth inning, but Hernstine held them scoreless for the final four innings.
Herstine gave up just four hits and had eight strikeouts in his complete game bid.
