Kentucky Man Sentenced in Murder Case

A Rowan County man was formally sentenced on Monday to 38 years in prison for the murder of the mother of his child. Casey Shay, 27, shot his ex-girlfriend and mother of their daughter in the head in their bedroom of their home in Morehead. The victim, Cassie Owen, 21, was a student at Morehead University when she was shot to death in March 2013. Shay originally pleaded guilty to the murder last month. His plea agreement called for a sentence of 38 years. He will not be eligible for parole until he serves 25 years of the sentence. The judge has also ordered that Shay may not have contact with the couple's daughter while he is in custody.
