Jenna Jones and the rest of the Rio Grande RedStorm (26-13) finished their weekend on a perfect note with a doubleheader sweep over Mid-South Conference foe the University Pikeville Bears (13-26) that extended their winning streak to six games.

Jones pitched another full game in game one of the double header, giving up one run on three hits as well as striking out three. She also went 1 for 3 at the plate and stole a base. Kim Rollins, Mattie Laham, and Kari Jones all had a hit and a RBI off of Pikeville’s Sydney Morris to make the final 3-1.

It was a battle of the bats in game two as both teams had at least 10 hits. The game went into the bottom of the seventh tied 3-3 until Rio’s Alex Kuhn batted in Jones for the final score of the game. Kuhn was one of four RedStorm batters to have more than one hit on the outing. The RBI was her only one on the game, but between Saturday’s doubleheader and Friday’s against Bluefield, Kuhn had seven RBIs. That brought her total to 10 RBIs on the season.

The RedStorm had some trouble on the mound during game two, as it took three pitchers to finish the game. Tiffany Bise started the game, but only lasted four innings after giving up seven hits and all three scored for the Bears. Katie Noll was on the mound next and lasted two and two thirds innings. Noll gave up four hits and struck out one before Jones came back out after pitching game one. Jones would get the final out of the inning and then score the winning run.

The RedStorm will get Sunday off before getting back at it with a doubleheader at home against Lindsay Wilson. Game one is set for 2 pm.
