A federal appeals court in Ohio has denied a request to rehear a challenge to the state's law on dangerous, wild animals.

Seven exotic animal owners sued the state over the regulations in November 2012, arguing that the law violates their free speech and free association rights.

A three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati upheld the law in March.

The owners had asked the full appeals court to review the matter. The court on Thursday denied their request for an "en banc" rehearing, saying issues raised in the case have been fully considered.

Messages seeking comment were left for the owners' attorney.

Attorneys for Ohio have said the law addresses animal welfare, public health and safety concerns associated with private ownership of exotic animals.
