< < Back to worker-killed-bridge-construction-project-near-proctorvilleThe body of a construction worker who died in an accident along Route 7 near Proctorville has been recovered.
The accident happened about 11:45 a.m. Thursday.
Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless says a construction worker was working on a project on the bridge over Indian Guyan Creek.
Sheriff Lawless says the man somehow fell into a large pit that had been dug in the creek.
Lawless says the pit, which is filled with water, is nearly 30 feet deep in some areas.
A dive crew from Scioto County, Ohio came to town to help with the search for the worker.
They were finally able to retrieve his body a little after 10 p.m.
Traffic in the area will remain down to one lane, with a temporary traffic light, due to the construction in the area.
Ladonna Dean lives near the scene of the accident.
“That could be anybody's husband going to work,” Dean said. “To face that kind of danger, and then lose a family member that way, that's horrible for anybody to have to go through."
The worker's name has not been released.
