West Virginia officials are celebrating a project that addresses a longtime flooding problem in Logan County.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin attended a dedication ceremony on Monday for the Island Creek Flood Protection Project.

WCHS-TV reports that project includes widening the Island Creek channel to an 80-foot bottom width for a distance of 3,600 feet upstream of its meeting with the Guyandotte River.

The project also will include the removal of an existing sandbar and implementation of a flood warning system.
