DeWine Calls On Communities’ Help In Heroin Fight

Gov. John Kasich and Attorney General Mike DeWine visited a group of school superintendents in central Ohio to discuss the state’s heroin epidemic. They talked up the state’s new drug abuse prevention program that encourages Ohio’s youth to speak out about issues related to drugs. DeWine says the heroin problem is hitting every area from small towns to the suburbs and big cities, and he urges communities to get involved.
“Where I’ve seen progress made has been in communities where they’ve got a citizens group," DeWine said. "They still have the problem but they’re making progress. And so if you’re making progress and you’re moving in the right direction that’s good – and frankly that’s all – that’s going to be a victory you have to count that as a victory.”
The attorney general added that the state can’t “arrest their way” out of this problem and they need to find other ways of helping users kick their addiction.
