Zanesville Law Director Found With Prostitute Can Practice Law
< < Back toA law director in eastern Ohio who was found with a prostitute can practice law as long as he avoids further misconduct.
Scott Hillis is the elected law director in Zanesville. He pleaded no contest to misdemeanor offenses of solicitation and criminal trespass after his 2013 arrest.
The Ohio Supreme Court ruled unanimously Thursday in favor of a six-month suspension of Hillis' law license but decided it should be stayed. That means Hillis can continue legal work if he doesn't commit further misconduct.
The court cited a number of factors in Hillis' favor, including his lack of previous court discipline, his willingness to seek treatment for what the court called psychological issues, and his cooperation, character and reputation.
A message was left with Hillis' lawyer seeking comment.
