Police Chief Joe Martin tells media outlets that a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy attacked Officer D.E. McClain after exchanging words with him.
Martin says the 63-year-old McClain was driving Friday night when he saw the juveniles walking in the center of the road. McClain stopped his vehicle and spoke to the teens. He got out of the vehicle when they became belligerent.
One juvenile punched McClain in the head. The other hit McClain multiple times with a collapsible baton.
Martin says McClain suffered minor injuries.
The teenagers are being held at a juvenile facility.
