< < Back to explosion-reported-lancasters-anchor-hocking-plantAn explosion was reported at Anchor Hocking's plant in Lancaster on Tuesday afternoon, and Pierce Avenue is closed in the city.
According to the Lancaster Eagle Gazette, police scanner traffic indicated that a tank fell and exploded just after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the glass-making factory.
The city's fire department reported the ensuing fire as "contained" at around 3:50 p.m.
No smoke came from the fire at the plant, which is located at 519 North Pierce Avenue in Lancaster.
This is the second fire reported at the plant this year. The other, according to the Eagle Gazette, happened on Jan. 2.
Earlier this year Anchor Hocking was the scene of a molten glass tank rupture on Jan. 2 that caused about $3 million in damage, according to fire department reports, and shut down some the plant’s production lines.
There were no injuries in that fire, however Tank 3 suffered a serious rupture.
The company had recalled 600 workers to restart the plant after a holiday shutdown for the July 4 holiday.
