Bids for Community improvement projects in Athens County were opened at today's county commission meeting.

Only one of the three proposed projects received a viable bid.

A Rome Township project received one bid for roof repairs to the Federal Valley Resource Center in Stewart.

It was the only project that received bids within budget, and will carry forward pending approval from Hocking-Athens-Perry Community Action.

Another Rome Township project that would provide a natural gas generator for the local fire department received two bids.

However, both bids were placed over the $30,910 allowable budget.

A Nelsonville project that would replace windows in the Nelsonville High School building received no bids at all.

HAPCAP Representative Glenn Crippen said there's no clear answer on why there were so few bids.

"Unfortunately our agency will update the county, we'll try to get feeback from contractors as to what happened," Crippen said. "We worked hard to get these projecst bid out and I'm not sure why we haven't received any this morning."

Projects with estimated costs over the budgeted amount will have to be be adjusted and then rebid.
