Mississippi band Water Liars returns to The Union on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 9 p.m. with opening sets from Athens singer-songwriter Adam Remnant and Lancaster trio Orson Frontier.

Fresh off the release of their self-titled third LP on Fat Possum’s Big Legal Mess label, Water Liars’ Justin Kinkel-Schuster and Andrew Bryant are being joined by bassist GR Robinson on their current tour.

After receiving positive reviews for their 2012 debut album, Phantom Limb, the group followed up with another full-length, Wyoming, and a single, “Moon Over Madison,” in 2013. Since forming in 2011, Water Liars have toured with the Drive-By Truckers, Angel Olsen, The Mountain Goats and The Felice Brothers, and have been featured at npr.org, daytrotter.com and nodepression.com.

Adam Remnant is no stranger to the Athens music scene, having made his mark fronting the band Southeast Engine, which released seven albums and toured throughout the United States. In recent years, Remnant’s musical activities have remained close to home–literally, as he has been busy working on a solo album in his home studio.

After making a name for themselves in Columbus, Lancaster folk-rockers Orson Frontier are becoming a familiar presence in the Athens scene, drawing comparisons to bands such as Neutral Milk Hotel and The Avett Brothers. Their first single, “Trails,” was released earlier this year on iTunes.

Tuesday’s show gets underway at 9 p.m. Advance tickets are $8 (available at Haffa’s Records) or $10 at the door. The show is a presentation of Aquabear Legion, Peacock Productions and Blackout Booking.
