The Ohio University Multicultural Center will host the Religious Tolerance: Tolerance, Understanding, Coexistence, Oman’s Message of Islam exhibit at the Multicultural Center Art Gallery beginning Nov. 1.

The world-renowned exhibit is described as an educational experience for all, detailing life, progress and modernization in the Sultanate of Oman.

Accompanying the exhibition is a short documentary by award-winning German filmmaker Wolfgang Ettlich titled Religious Tolerance in Oman. The film documents religious life in the country.

The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will have an exclusive reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14.

As a seafaring nation, Oman has been engaged for three millennia in intercultural exchange with peoples around the Indian Ocean, reaching as far as China.

Freedom of religion is guaranteed in the Sultanate of Oman, where there has historically been mutual acceptance and understanding and a peaceful coexistence among its diverse religious communities.

The exhibit’s website states “The 24 panels in this exhibition present facets of a modern
Arab country, and offers the visitor insights into the practice of Islam in daily life, an examination of contemporary Omani society and the role of women in society.”
