< < Back to ohio-swimming-and-diving-splits-tri-meetYoung Bobcats shined as Ohio defeated Youngstown State 186-110 and lost to Oakland University 151-136 in the Bobcats’ first road meet of the season Friday evening.
The Bobcats won early in the tri-meet. The team of Addy Ferguson, Tori Bagan, Laura Dawson, and Haley Clark won the 200 Medley Relay (145.83) to start the night. To keep the ball rolling, Bianca Hauzer came out on top in the second event, the 1000 freestyle (10:23.91).
Last year Dawson swam for Kentucky in the SEC, one of the power 5 of the NCAA. Now a sophomore Bobcat, she is making an early impact in competition.
In a long, but tight 200 butterfly race, Dawson held off Oakland’s Patricia Aschan to win by just .28 seconds. The two finished with times of 2:06.33 and 2:06.61 respectively. Dawson later won the 200 backstroke with 3 seconds of cushion between her and second place (2:01.41).
Freshman Carrie Dukes also won a close race in the 100 butterfly (57.99), edging out Oakland’s Stella Pasalidou (58.27).
The other individual win came from junior Tori Bagan. She had the closest Bobcat victory of the night in the 100 breast (1:04.10). She won by just .15 seconds over Oakland’s Takara Martin.
Freshman Karrisa Conner was the only diver to score. She earned fifth and sixth in the 3-meter and 1-meter events, respectively.
This new group of Bobcats now head into their first conference matchup against Eastern Michigan Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. in Ypsilanti, Mich.
